Arnaud Montebourg was born on 30 October 1962, in Clamecy, in the Nièvre.
A trained lawyer, he served as a Socialist member of parliament for Saône-et-Loire from 1997 to 2012.
He served as Minister for Industrial Recovery from 2012 to 2014, and as Minister of the Economy, Industrial Recovery and Digital Affairs in 2014.
Now an entrepreneur, he founded Les Équipes du Made in France in 2015, a holding company dedicated to building Made in France businesses in agriculture and industry.
